Democratic Representative Al Green was ejected from the House chamber for heckling US President Donald Trump during his joint address to Congress on Tuesday night.
Just minutes into President Trump’s speech was later interrupted by Green saying, “You have no mandate.”
This prompted Republican members to stand and chant “USA! USA!” Following this disruption, authorities removed Green from the chamber.

Who is Al Green?
Al Green, 77, congressman stood for an extended duration, brandishing his cane towards Trump.
Since 2005, Green has served as a representative for east Texas, with his constituency encompassing Houston’s southwestern region and Fort Bend County’s suburban areas. In the 2022 election, he secured his position with a substantial 76% of votes, Wall Street Journal reported.
Throughout his tenure, Green has consistently championed efforts to remove Trump from office. He pioneered the impeachment movement against the president, initially presenting impeachment articles in October 2017, followed by two additional attempts in 2019. Recently, Green informed journalists of his intention to pursue another impeachment effort in the upcoming weeks, having previously declared this plan during a House floor session last month.
Green is a fierce critic of President Trump, and called for the impeachment of the president during his first term in office, BBC reported.
‘Absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy’: Trump on Democrats reaction after Green was ejected
After Green was removed, Trump expressed his frustration with the Democrats’ response to his address. “I look at the Democrats in front of me, and I realise there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud, nothing I can do,” Trump said.
“I could find a cure to the most devastating disease, a disease that would wipe out entire nations or announce the answers to the greatest economy in history or the stoppage of crime to the lowest levels ever recorded, and these people sitting right here will not clap, will not stand, and certainly will not cheer for these astronomical achievements.”
The Democratic representatives displayed their disapproval through various actions, with numerous members exiting the chamber following Green’s removal, whilst others remained but stood with their backs turned towards Trump as he delivered his speech.
