When Twinkle Khanna recalled mom Dimple Kapadia asking her and Akshay Kumar to live-in for 2 years before marriage: 'If you make it, then...'

Twinkle Khanna grew up with her mother, Dimple Kapadia, in an unconventional household. Though Dimple and Rajesh Khanna were separated but not divorced, Twinkle was primarily raised by her protective mother.
In a throwback interview with Tweak India, Twinkle revealed that when Akshay Kumar told Dimple he wanted to marry her, her mother suggested they live together for two years before getting married.

The topic came up when Masaba Gupta mentioned that her mother, Neena Gupta, didn’t allow her to live with her ex-husband before marriage. In contrast, Twinkle shared that her mother had the opposite view, insisting she and Akshay live together for two years before deciding to marry.

Twinkle shared that her mother, Dimple Kapadia, advised her based on her own marriage experience. She also reflected on how her life might have been different if her parents had stayed together, wondering if she would still have the same drive to keep working, as she admired her mother’s strength.
Twinkle also shared that growing up with a single mother shielded her from patriarchy for a long time. Since there was no male figure in her household, she didn’t initially realize that a patriarchal system existed, as she wasn’t exposed to it during her upbringing.
