When Raj Babbar confessed he had a relationship with Rekha: 'The feelings for her are always there'

Raj Babbar married Smita Patil when he was already married Nadira and had two children. However, Raj and Smita’s joruney together did not last long as the actress passed away too soon. Raj was emotionally going through a tough time after her demise and was broken. That’s when he found solace in his co-star Rekha when they were working together in ‘Agar Tum Na Hote’. At that time, Rekha had also just come out of her long-term relationship and was depressed, thus, the two actors found emotional support in each other.
However, their alleged affair did not end up well. According to reports, Rekha was spotted running bare-foot on the streets of Mumbai and had attempted to file a complaint against Raj at a local police station on account of domestic violence. Reportedly, the officials dismissed this as a lover’s spat and sent her home. Reports also suggested that a close associate of Rekha had warned Babbar to stay away from her. They parted ways as Raj went back to his first wife Nadira and that perhaps had hurt Rekha.
Meanwhile, many years ago, Babbar had opened up on his relationship with Rekha in an interview. He had said, “Yes, our relationship helped me in a way. We drifted together because of certain circumstances. At that time, Rekha had broken off from a long-standing relationship. She wanted to get away from it. I was in a similar situation. At the same time, we were also working together and we clung to each other for emotional support. We tried to understand each other’s problems. The feelings for her are always there, though the arrogance is not, it is all in the past now. I had a person with whom I shared my emotional moments. I was there to share her emotional moments. One does not forget such a relationship very easily. Though we aren’t together today, we still have fond memories of those special moments.”
Raj Babbar continues to be married to his first wife Nadira and he stays with her. He has two children – Arya Babbar and Juhi. Meanwhile, he has a son – Prateik Babbar, with Smita Patil.
