'Stay away from weak who run away in difficult times': Kharge to party workers

NEW DELHI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday urged party members to back those who are firmly committed to its ideology while keeping away from those who “run away in difficult times.”
“Promote people ideologically committed to party; stay away from weak who run away in difficult times,” he said at a meeting of senior Congress leaders.
Kharge also stressed the need for greater accountability, asserting that “office-bearers would be held responsible for future poll results.”
The meeting, held at the party’s new headquarters at Indira Bhawan, was attended by key Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal and state in-charges.
The discussions focused on the party’s political strategy, particularly in the wake of the Delhi assembly election results, where Congress failed to secure a single seat for the third consecutive time. The deliberations also come ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.
Kharge previously indicated that 2025 will be a year of organisational revamp, with an emphasis on bringing in new leadership. The latest meeting follows the recent appointment of new office bearers in the party’s revamped structure.
Congress president slammed the BJP-Modi government over the deportation of Indian nationals from the US and said, “Modi govt has failed to stop insult of Indians deported from USA.”
He also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not taking a firm stand on trade relations, stating, “PM failed to oppose US tariffs on India, which is insult of country, Indians.”
