Shooting at Kirtland air force base leaves one dead, another sustains injuries; investigation underway

A fatal incident occurred at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, early Saturday when one airman was killed and another sustained injuries in a shooting incident.
Officials confirmed this was neither a terrorist act nor an external attack.
Base security personnel responded to reports of gunfire near a base entrance around 2 am (local time). The injured airman, who suffered a hand wound, received treatment and was subsequently released from hospital.
“The cause of death and the incident remains under investigation by local authorities,” Kirtland air force base said in a statement.
Military authorities provided limited information about the incident. They did not confirm if any arrests were made or if they were searching for suspects. When questioned about whether the perpetrator was military personnel, the spokesperson offered no response. The identities of the affected airmen remained undisclosed.
The investigation is currently underway, with FBI officials examining the scene alongside support from the Albuquerque police department.
