NEW DELHI: BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Tuesday took a swipe at Congress leaders, accusing them of behaving like “content creators for Pakistan” amid rising tensions between the two countries after Pahalgam massacre.“Ever since some Pakistani YouTubers were banned in India, it seems Congress leaders have taken over their role in content creation for Pakistan,” Poonawalla said. “Charanjit Singh Channi questioned the surgical strike and attacked the Army’s morale… In all-party meetings, Congress claims to stand with the country and the forces, but once outside, they return to vote-bank politics,” he added.Poonawalla’s reaction came in reaction to Congress president Kharge’s recent allegations, where accused PM Modi of having prior intelligence of Pahalgam attack. Several other Congress leaders have also made a series of remarks on the issue.Earlier this month, former Punjab chief minister and now MP, Charanjit Singh Channi, questioned the authenticity of the 2016 surgical strike. “I have never seen where it happened. I’ve always asked for proof,” Channi said at a press conference.Similarly, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai mocked the BJP-led Centre by waving a toy plane labelled ‘Rafale’ adorned with (nimbu-mirchi) chillies and lemons, saying the fighter jets remain idle in hangars.Poonawalla’s remarks also come against the backdrop of rising tensions with Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists. Meanwhile, Centre recently blocked several Pakistani celebrities and influencers’ social media accounts in India in response.
