Nita Ambani opens up on how Anant Ambani's confidence overshadowed his obesity struggle during the lavish wedding

Anant Ambani’s lavish wedding had gained global attention last year, when he tied the knot with Radhika Merchant. Anant, the youngest son of Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani has always been at the centre of attention for several reasons: his love for animals, his bond with his parents, and also for his weight.
Nita Ambani has spoken about her youngest child’s struggle with health issues several times. Recently, in an interview with Bloomberg Television, Nita Ambani said, “My son Anant has been fighting obesity from a very young age because of his asthma and when he went up on a stage as a confident groom, he told me, ‘Mom, it’s not what I am physically, it’s what my heart is.’ And I saw him holding his life partner’s hand. I think that was the most touching feeling, as a mother.”
Anant has faced significant challenges with his weight from a young age. His weight gain was partly attributed to the use of steroids for asthma treatment, which can lead to increased appetite and fat accumulation. Asthma steroids, specifically corticosteroids like prednisone and budesonide, can cause weight gain due to their impact on metabolism and appetite. These steroids increase fluid retention, leading to bloating and swelling, and stimulate hunger hormones, causing overeating. They also slow down calorie-burning processes, leading to fat accumulation, especially around the abdomen, face, and neck.
In 2014, ahead of his 21st birthday, Anant embarked on a transformative weight loss journey. Over 18 months, he lost approximately 108 kilograms, reducing his weight from 208 kg to around 100 kg.
This remarkable achievement was accomplished through a combination of rigorous exercise and a strict diet plan. He used to walk 21 kilometres everyday, practiced yoga, did weight and functional training and did high-intensity cardio exercises. Anant also adhered to a zero-sugar, high-protein, and low-carb diet, consuming between 1,200 to 1,400 calories daily. His meals consisted of fresh green vegetables, lentils, sprouts, pulses, and dairy products, while completely avoiding junk food.
His fitness trainer Vinod Channa had revealed it in interviews that Anant was too interested in junk foods and keeping his love for food in mind, he planned a customised diet so that Anant develops healthy eating habits.
