Neena Gupta doesn't want Masaba Gupta's daughter to call her 'naani' as the actress has a contemporary approach to family dynamics
Neena Gupta prefers a modern approach to grandparenting, asking her granddaughter to call her “Neena” instead of “naani.” She’s preparing for her film ‘Hindi Vindi,’ where she plays a smart music teacher grandmother, showcasing her contemporary perspective on family roles.

Veteran actress Neena Gupta recently became a grandmother when her daughter Masaba Gupta welcomed a baby girl. Neena has shared that she enjoys an adorable and modern bond with her granddaughter, Matara. Describing their relationship as extremely special, Neena has asked Matara to call her “Neena” instead of “naani,” reflecting her preference for a more contemporary approach to their family dynamic.
In an interview with ANI, Neena expressed her modern perspective on being a grandmother. She stated, “I don’t feel like a grandmother. In fact, I have told the little one not to call me naani but, call me Neena.” This preference reflects her desire to avoid traditional roles and the feeling of aging associated with them.
She prefers not to follow traditional grandparent roles. Her daughter, Masaba Gupta, and Satyadeep Misra got married on January 27, 2023. In April 2024, they announced the birth of their baby girl via Instagram, posting a picture with the message: “Our very special little girl arrived on a very special day. 11.10.2024. Masaba & Satyadeep.”
Neena is now preparing for her next film, ‘Hindi Vindi’, where she plays a grandmother. Talking about her character, she said, “In the film, I am also playing a very smart grandmother who is a music teacher in India. Speaking about the film, she said, “It is a movie which basically revolves around a grandmother and a grandson, who is played by Mihir (Ahuja), who is also a musician. It’s a very emotional kind of a story and a very real story which people will connect with, and it has a major part in the movies, the music, and that’s why we have Guy (Sebastian) who is playing his father. So it has a lot of beautiful music, it has a lot of emotions, and it is very real”.
‘Hindi Vindi’ also features ‘The Archies’ fame Mihir Ahuja and Australian singer Guy Sebastian.
