Drunk driver of private luxury bus rams into car in Kharghar, dies at hospital

NAVI MUMBAI: The driver of a private luxury bus, under the influence of alcohol, rammed into an SUV in Kharghar on Tuesday morning. As the bus driver was inebriated and fell unconscious, he was rushed to a private hospital, where he was declared brought dead on arrival.
Deepak Surve, Senior Inspector of Kharghar police station, informed that on Tuesday around 10 am, the luxury bus driver, identified as Sujit Das (42) of Gala Transport, who was sloshed, rammed into an Ertiga car ahead near Pranam Hotel in Sector 34, Kharghar. No one was injured in the mishap, and even the Ertiga SUV driver left after receiving compensation for the damage to his car and did not lodge a police complaint.
Thereafter, another driver of the luxury bus company, identified as Ganesh Rathi Panvel, was assigned the duty on the said bus. Rathi found Sujit Das unconscious, due to being sloshed, inside the parked bus. Hence, he was taken to Medicity Hospital, Kharghar, for treatment, where the doctors declared him dead before admission.
An accidental death case was registered at Kharghar police station. As of now, there is no suspicion or complaint about the death of bus driver Sujit Das. An autopsy was performed on the body of the deceased Das at Panvel sub-district hospital, and his body was handed over to the relatives for the last rites.
