Did you know Bobby Deol, not Kunaal Roy Kapur was FIRST choice to play Taran in Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone starrer Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani?

Kunaal Roy Kapur has made a strong career for himself with roles in movies like Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Nautanki Saala, and Kya Kool Hai Hum 3. He has also appeared in popular web series, showcasing his wit, charm, and versatility. Kunaal remains a well-known figure in the entertainment world.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Kunaal reflected on his role in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, where his character is now seen as a “green flag.” He explained that the intention wasn’t to specifically create a character with that label. They just focused on building a character who was giving, accepting, and put his loved one before himself—qualities that are now recognised as important and admirable.

When asked if green flag guys exist in real life, Kunaal responded that such people do exist. He acknowledged that while his character in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani might not be entirely perfect, he embodies qualities that are admirable. He’s happy that this character has become a positive example, especially after the film’s journey and the way people have connected with it.

When asked about Bobby Deol originally being considered for the role of Tarun in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Kunaal Roy Kapur expressed that he can’t really imagine Bobby in that role. While it might have worked, he believes it would have been in a completely different way.
When asked about his characters looking a certain way, Kunaal Roy Kapur humorously replied, “What are you saying? I’m much better looking than Bobby. You’re insulting my looks too!”
The actor thanked fans for the re-release of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, mentioning how a new generation is discovering the film and sharing their reactions. He acknowledged the growing popularity of the “green flag” character, noting that while its meaning might evolve over time, it’s heartwarming to see the continued love. He even received videos from people in Pondicherry dancing to the film’s songs.
