'Crucial to have Trump's support': Zelenskyy says ready to sign minerals deal after White House showdown

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday expressed gratitude towards US President Donald Trump and the Americans categorically thanking them for their support “during these three years of full-scale invasion.” He further said that the country had agreed to sign the minerals deal, however, he added that “it’s not enough, and we need more than just that.”
“We are ready to sign the minerals agreement, and it will be the first step toward security guarantees. But it’s not enough, and we need more than just that. A ceasefire without security guarantees is dangerous for Ukraine. We’ve been fighting for 3 years, and Ukrainian people need to know that America is on our side,” he said.
This comes a day after Zelenskyy and Trump were caught in a spat on camera during peace talks at the Oval office where the latter had lashed out at the former for not being thankful enough for getting help from the States.
“We are very grateful to the United States for all the support. I’m thankful to President Trump, Congress for their bipartisan support, and American people. Ukrainians have always appreciated this support, especially during these three years of full-scale invasion,” he said in a post on X.
“Our relationship with the American President is more than just two leaders; it’s a historic and solid bond between our peoples. That’s why I always begin with words of gratitude from our nation to the American nation,” he continued.
“American people helped save our people. Humans and human rights come first. We’re truly thankful. We want only strong relations with America, and I really hope we will have them,” he said.

‘You have to be thankful’: Why has Zelenskyy gone on a thanking spree

The Ukrainian president has gone on a thanking spree after Trump and vice president JD Vance claimed that he wasn’t grateful towards the US for helping the war-torn country.
“You have to be thankful. You don’t have the cards,” Trump said, adding: “You gotta be more thankful.”
“Have you said thank you once this entire meeting?” Vance echoed.
Following this, Zelenskyy has made his gratitude bold and clear towards the States and every other country that has extended their support towards the nation.
“Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit. Thank you @POTUS, Congress, and the American people. Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that,” he had said after the meeting ended.
