Bank holidays this weekend: Are banks open or closed on August 15 & 16? Check state-wise list

Banking operations across India will be closed on August 15 for Independence Day, while several states will also see a shutdown on August 16 for Janmashtami, followed by regular Sunday closure, creating an extended weekend of limited banking services from August 15 to 17.Banks in Manipur will also remain closed on August 13, 2025 to observe Patriot’s Day.

Closure on August 15

All banks across India will remain closed on August 15, Friday for Independence Day celebrations.

Closure on August 16

August 16 will be a holiday for banks in several states due to Janmashtami/Krishna Jayanthi celebrations. The states observing the holiday include Gujarat, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Telangana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Srinagar, and Andhra Pradesh.While August 15 to 17 constitutes a long weekend in most states, banks will operate in Tripura, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, New Delhi, Goa, and Himachal Pradesh on Saturday.
