‘Another launch attempt tomorrow’: Elon Musk shares update after SpaceX calls off Starship’s 10th test launch

SpaceX’s highly anticipated 10th test launch of the Starship rocket was unexpectedly called off after engineers detected an issue with the ground systems. The announcement was made on Sunday via the company’s official X account, which stated that the team was standing down to troubleshoot the problem. Elon Musk later clarified that the cause was a liquid oxygen leak on the ground side, forcing the postponement. Despite the setback, Musk assured followers that SpaceX is targeting another attempt on Monday, keeping hopes high for the future of Starship’s Mars-focused mission.

SpaceX halts Starship launch due to ground system issue

According to SpaceX, the launch had to be delayed because engineers spotted irregularities with the ground systems shortly before liftoff. The company emphasised that safety remains the highest priority, and suspending the launch was necessary to avoid risk. This decision was communicated swiftly on X, drawing immediate attention from space enthusiasts worldwide.Shortly after the official update, Musk personally addressed the situation on X. He revealed that a ground-side liquid oxygen leak was the root cause of the aborted launch. Such leaks can disrupt fueling operations and pose hazards, making them a critical issue to resolve. Musk reassured that the team is working quickly to fix the problem and prepare Starship for another attempt within 24 hours.

Elon Musk shares new launch time

According to SpaceX’s official website, the next attempt for Starship’s 10th flight is scheduled for Monday, August 25, with the launch window opening at 6:30 p.m. CT. Weather and technical readiness will ultimately decide whether the launch proceeds on time. The company remains confident, with Musk confirming that engineers are making rapid progress on addressing the oxygen leak to ensure a safe flight. This isn’t the first time a SpaceX launch has been delayed due to oxygen-related issues. In June 2025, the Falcon 9 rocket also faced a delay during the AX-4 mission with NASA and Axiom Space due to propellant leaks. The recurrence highlights the challenges of managing highly complex fueling systems in reusable rockets.

Starship’s importance to Musk’s Mars mission

Standing nearly 400 feet tall, Starship is the largest and most powerful rocket SpaceX has ever built. Despite facing three consecutive test failures earlier in 2025, the vehicle is central to Musk’s vision of making humanity a multiplanetary species. Every test flight, even when delayed, brings the program closer to its goal of enabling deep-space missions, including potential crewed journeys to Mars in the future.
