Akshaye Khanna says early balding 'was heartbreaking'

Actor Akshaye Khanna recently spoke about his struggle with premature balding, describing it as a devastating experience. He revealed that he started losing hair at the age of 19-20, which deeply affected him, both mentally and professionally.
In a conversation with Mid-Day, Khanna shared that hair plays an important role in an actor’s career, as it impacts the kind of projects they can get. He compared his situation to that of a pianist losing his fingers, expressing how helpless he felt at the time.
The ‘Chhaava’ actor admitted that coming to terms with his hair loss was not easy. It took him time to accept the reality and feel comfortable in his own skin. He explained that losing hair at a young age can be mentally challenging, as it affects a person’s confidence and self-image.
Talking about his struggle, he said, “It started happening at such a young age, and in those days, it felt like a pianist losing his fingers. That’s how it seemed to me. Until you fully accept it, it keeps bothering you.”
He also compared it to losing eyesight as one grows older. “Imagine waking up one day and realizing you can’t read something clearly. You suddenly need glasses, and you wonder, What is happening to me? Why are my eyes not working? It affects you deeply,” he explained.
Khanna pointed out that in the entertainment industry, physical appearance matters a lot, and losing hair at a young age made him doubt his career. Many actors rely on their looks, and sudden changes in appearance can impact opportunities.
However, over time, he learned to accept himself and focus on his acting skills rather than looks. Despite facing challenges, Khanna has continued to impress audiences with his performances in various films.
Today, Akshaye Khanna is known for his strong screen presence and acting talent, proving that looks are not everything in Bollywood. His journey is a reminder that self-acceptance and confidence are more important than physical appearance.
While balding at a young age was difficult for him, he eventually found a way to move past it and continue his successful career. His story serves as inspiration for those dealing with similar struggles, showing that talent and perseverance matter more than external appearances.
