MUMBAI: UPI crossed a major milestone in Aug 2025, processing 2,001 crore transactions – the first time monthly volumes have topped the 2,000-crore mark. The transactions were worth Rs 24.85 lakh crore.Volumes grew 34% year-on-year and 2.8% over July’s 1947 crore transactions, though the total value slipped 0.9% from Rs 25.08 lakh crore a month earlier. Compared with June, when UPI handled 1,840 crore payments worth Rs 24.04 lakh crore, Aug saw an 8.7% rise in volumes but only a 3.4% increase in value.On a daily average, UPI processed 64.5 crore transactions, up from 62.8 crore in July and 34% higher than a year ago. In value terms, the daily average stood at Rs 80,177 crore, slightly lower than July’s Rs 80,919 crore but still 21% higher than Aug 2024. Since its launch in 2016 by NPCI, UPI has rapidly scaled transaction milestones, crossing 50 crore daily payments by Aug 2024 and surpassing 70 crore on Aug 2, 2025. Monthly volumes, have grown in value and usage.
