When Randhir Kapoor said, 'I was a terrible man who drank a lot' and that led to his separation with Babita: 'We had two lovely children'

Randhir Kapoor and Babita had met on the sets of Raj Kapoor’s film ‘Sangam’. They started dating but that’s when Raj Kapoor asked them to get married. Randhir had said earlier on Kapil Sharma’s show, “Main timepass kiye jaa raha tha. He was like, ‘Shaadi vaadi karne ka iraada hai ki nahi?’ (I was whiling away time. My father asked if I had any intention of getting married).”
He had added, “Jab woh buddhi ho jayegi shaadi karega usse (Will you marry her when she gets old)?” Thus, they got married in 1971. Babita also left her career as at that time, the women in the Kapoor house were not allowed to act.
However, the duo started living separately from 1988, when Randhir returned to his parents’ house. Though, they never officially got divorced. Earlier in a chat with Hindustan Times, Randhir had opened up on the reason for their divorce. He had said, “She found that I was a terrible man who drank a lot and came home late, which was something she didn’t like. And I didn’t want to live the way she wanted, and she couldn’t accept me as I was, though it was a love marriage. So it’s okay. We had two lovely children to look after. She brought them up in the best way and they have excelled in their career. What else could I have asked for as a father?”
Babita and Randhir have two daughters – Karisma and Kareena Kapoor. Both the actresses have proven to be their best during their respective career spans.
