US President Donald Trump on Tuesday praised Elon Musk and his leadership of DOGE during his joint address to Congress, highlighting efforts to combat inflation and reduce government spending.
“To further combat inflation, we will not only be reducing the cost of energy, but we’ll be ending the flagrant waste of taxpayer dollars,” Trump said, outlining his goal for DOGE. He then acknowledged Musk’s role and said, “DOGE is headed by Elon Musk, who is in the gallery tonight.”
Musk stood and acknowledged the applause from lawmakers and attendees. Trump continued, “Thank you, Elon. He’s working very hard. He didn’t need this.”
Trump also took a moment to address the Democratic side of the chamber, suggesting they, too, recognised Musk’s contributions. “Everybody here, even this side, appreciates it, I believe,” Trump said. “They just don’t want to admit that.”
Trump’s remarks stressed his administration’s focus on economic efficiency, with Musk’s work in technology and innovation playing a key role in those efforts.
