Set at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, everything on display at Zimmermann’s spring/summer 2025 showcase was exactly as fans of the brand have come to expect; beautifully detailed, well-styled and full of joy. The much-loved Aussie label, best known for their floaty gowns and laidback elegance, is fast-becoming one of the hottest tickets in the fashion capital‘s schedule.
Hosting the likes of Isla Fisher and Emma Roberts alongside some of the world’s biggest fashion buyers, editors and influencers on its front row, there’s no doubt that sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann – who founded the luxury label in Sydney back in 1991 – have found their people. The audience ooh’d and aah’d as models strutted down the catwalk in ruffled gowns and clever, fashion-forward parkas, but it was the elevated accessories that got everyone most excited.
“We’re very focused on the accessories this season, there were at least 33 looks with bags, which I’ve never done before,” Nicky told GLAMOUR backstage after the show. The inspiration? “The embellishments and trims were taken from surfboard accessories and organic beach-washed stones.”
The sun-drenched collection itself was inspired by the 1972 film Morning of the Earth about a pioneering Australian surfer. “For me it was about light and movement and using natural, organic prints and fabrications to make sure the clothes capture the air,” Nicky says. “I think it’s important when you wear a garment that you can feel the skirts whooshing — it’s fun!”
Everyone certainly had fun watching the floaty frocks billow down the runway. A gold clutch in the shape of a pebble with two kangaroos engraved on top was a crowd favourite, as were the sandy suede looks and giant floppy hats.
With the brand’s DNA so deeply embedded in Australia there’s no denying where home is, and much of this spring/summer 2025 collection continues to put resort wear at the forefront – but there were plenty of boyish, khaki styles as well. “To be honest, I actually love these [tougher] looks, these are things I wear to work and I love, so I love mixing our femininity with these much cooler pieces,” Nicky told us last season.
This has always been Zimmermann’s sweet spot – its ability to provide just enough dream-like whimsy to satisfy the sartorial fantasy without ever tipping the balance into saccharine realms, but this season’s styling may have been the brand’s strongest yet.
With all things seventies very much trending this season and beyond, we wish we could pull these outfits straight off the runway to wear today, but for now we’ll just have to admire the utility jackets and sunset-coloured looks from afar.
As we concluded our chat, we asked Nicky what makes her feel most empowered after the show. She replied: “Clothing can definitely make you feel empowered, but also just achieving what you wanted for the day, so today was the show — big tick done! I may go and have a glass of champagne after.” Cheers to that.
