The makers of HBO have dismissed the rumours of the show’s cancellation. They have revealed that the show will go on the floors next year.
HBO’s Euphoria is one of the most loved television series. With two successful seasons, the makers renewed the teen drama for a third season. The second season concluded in 2022 and fans have been waiting with bated breath for the next season. Online rumours claimed that the makers would not be going ahead with the third season. However, the production house has responded and has put an end to the speculations.
As reported by PEOPLE, an HBO representative dismissed the rumours. They mentioned that the series will go on the floors next year and will go as per the schedule. The news outlet quoted the representative saying, “Euphoria is going into production in 2025. Nothing has changed.” The show was renewed for a third season in February 2022 but the production got delayed due to the ongoing writers and actors strikes and also because of the script delays. It was slated to go on floors in the summer of 2024.
Back in July 2023, Francesca Orsi, the executive vice president of HBO Programming and head of HBO Drama Series and Films, had talked about how the studio will not be backing out of Euphoria. She said, “We could not be happier with our creative partnership with News18 Sam [Levinson] and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans.”
Euphoria revolves around Rue Bennett (played by Zendaya) who returns home from rehabilitation. Season 2 which aired in 2022, concluded with an emotional finale. The death of fan-favorite Ashtray (Javon Walton) and the cliffhanger surrounding Fezco’s (Angus Cloud) fate left viewers on edge. Rue’s ongoing battle with sobriety remained unresolved, only adding to the anticipation for the next season. However, the tragic death of Angus Cloud in August 2023, at the age of 25 due to an accidental drug overdose, has left fans heartbroken and uncertain about the future of his character, Fezco. Additionally, the departure of Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat Hernandez, has further fueled speculation about the show’s direction.
The teen drama stars Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, and Hunter Schafer in key roles. HBO has not announced the premiere date of Season 3 as of now.
