NEW DELHI: UP Warriorz Women secured a dominant 33-run victory over Delhi Capitals Women in the 8th match of the Women’s Premier League 2025 on Saturday at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
Asked to bat first, UP Warriorz set a challenging target of 178, posting 177-9 in their 20 overs. After the fall of early wickets, Chinelle Henry, coming in to bat at number eight, top-scored with 62 runs, with contributions from Tahlia McGrath (24) and Deepti Sharma (13) keeping the scoreboard ticking.
Sophie Ecclestone (12) also added valuable runs at the end, while the fall of early wickets put the UP side under immense pressure.
Despite strong bowling from Delhi’s Marizanne Kapp (2/18) and Jess Jonassen (4/31), UP Warriorz managed to reach 177, thanks to key partnerships and smart batting from Henry.
In reply, Delhi Capitals began strongly but crumbled under pressure. They were reduced to 144 all out in just 19.3 overs.
The highlight of the chase was Grace Harris, who delivered a sensational hat-trick in the final over, taking out Shikha Pandey (15), Arundhati Reddy (0), and Minnu Mani (0) in consecutive deliveries to seal the victory.
Kranti Goud’s impressive 4-wicket haul (4/25) was pivotal in breaking the backbone of Delhi’s batting, while Harris’ hat-trick ensured the game was firmly in UP Warriorz’s grasp.
Sophie Ecclestone, Deepti Sharma, and Chinelle Henry also played vital roles in the win.
UP Warriorz’s all-round brilliance shone through, with standout performances across both batting and bowling departments. The win by 33 runs handed them their first victory in the tournament, while Delhi Capitals will look to regroup for their next encounter against Gujarat Giants on Tuesday.
