Actor Morgan Freeman was seen wearing a black glove on one hand at the Oscars 2025. The 87 year old actor kept his hands at the back most of the time. His black glove caught the attention of his fans and followers who were quick to react. ‘Why was Morgan Freeman wearing a black glove? #Oscars2025,’ several users have shared on social media platform X.
‘The Shawshank Redemption’ actor has been spotted with glove several times and he wears this to alleviate a health condition, reports have said.
He has been dealing with a severe health condition
Freeman is suffering from fibromyalgia, a nerve damage he has been struggling with since 2008 after an accident, where his car flipped multiple times on a Mississippi highway. His left hand is paralysed. He was lifted from the vehicle using hydraulic cutters. The condition causes pain “up and down the arm. That’s where it gets so bad. Excruciating,” he told Esquire magazine earlier. He wore a compression glove to keep the blood flowing in his hand.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and tenderness in specific areas of the body. It affects millions worldwide and can significantly impact daily life.
Common symptoms include chronic pain, extreme fatigue, sleep disturbances, headaches, brain fog (fibro fog), and mood disorders like anxiety and depression. Since fibromyalgia symptoms overlap with other conditions, diagnosis is often challenging and based on a patient’s history and tender point examination.
“Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain and spinal cord process painful and nonpainful signals,” explains MayoClinic. “The pain associated with fibromyalgia often is described as a constant dull ache that has lasted for at least three months. To be considered widespread, the pain must occur on both sides of your body and above and below your waist,” it adds.
Although there is no cure, those with fibromyalgia are advised to perform low impact activities like yoga, walking, and stretching to reduce pain and stiffness. They are recommended pain relievers, antidepressants, and nerve pain medications.
