'Whole nation is happy': Gautam Gambhir on India's Champions Trophy triumph

Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir expressed joy after India’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which was hosted across Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates from February 19 to March 9.
Before departing for Rishabh Pant’s sister’s wedding in Dehradun, Gambhir shared his thoughts at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
“I am very happy, and the whole nation is happy,” Gambhir said while speaking to the media.
India secured their third ICC Champions Trophy title by defeating New Zealand by four wickets in Dubai. The victory was powered by Rohit Sharma’s quick fifty, Shreyas Iyer’s solid batting, and exceptional bowling from spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav.
Team captain Rohit earned the Player of the Match award in the final. His outstanding innings of 76 runs from 83 balls included seven boundaries and three sixes.
New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra claimed both the Golden Bat and Player of the Tournament awards. He accumulated 263 runs in four matches with an average of 65.75 and a strike rate of 106.47.

Ravindra scored two centuries during the tournament – one against Bangladesh in the league stage and another versus South Africa in the semifinal. He also contributed with three wickets and scored a quick 37 runs in 29 balls in the final.
Matt Henry emerged as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker. The New Zealand fast bowler claimed 10 wickets in four matches at an average of 16.70, including a five-wicket haul against India in the group stage.
