Ajit Doval’sappointment will be co-terminus with the term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi or until further orders, teh official order said. “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Ajit Doval, IPS (Retired) as National Security Adviser with effect from 10.06.2024,” said the order issued by the Personnel Ministry.

- Ajit Doval is the first police officer awarded the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award.
- He served in the Indian High Commission in Pakistan for six years.
- Ajit Doval was the negotiator for the release of the passengers of Air India flight IC-814 in 1999’s Kandahar hijack.
- Doval took part in Operation Black Thunder in 1988 against Khalistani terrorists.
- Between 2004 and 2005, Ajit Doval served as the director of Intelligence Bureau.
- The surgical strike of 2016 was believed to be part of Ajit Doval’s ‘offensive defence strategy’. He was also believed to be one of the seven persons who knew about 2019’s Balakot airstrike.
- In his first stint as the NSA, Doval facilitated the return of the 546 Indian nurses who were trapped in Iraq following the capture of t Mosul by ISIL.
- Doval is also credited for a cross-broder military operation against National Socielist Council of Nagaland separatists operating out of Myanmar.
- Doval was one of the key persons in resolving the India-China Doklam standoff.
