Ranveer Singh’s commitment to Lootera (2013) led to an intense health scare, as shared by director Vikramaditya Motwane in an interview with casting director Mukesh Chhabra. Motwane recalled that during the early days of shooting in Dalhousie, Ranveer injured his back but insisted on continuing, saying he would “be fine.”
For one demanding scene, Ranveer wanted to feel his character’s pain authentically. “Ranveer has worked himself up to a frenzy. He said, ‘I want to feel the pain here and want to emote it on screen,’” Motwane shared. To prepare, Ranveer clipped black paper near his waist to simulate pain and even ran up and down a mountain to capture the right emotion and sweat.
By the time the scene wrapped, Ranveer’s back had gone into spasm. Motwane recalled, “He just collapsed and had to be taken out,” explaining that the actor didn’t realize the toll on his back until it was too late. The team had to airlift him out of Dalhousie the following day, pausing the shoot.
