When Ranveer Allahbadia predicted his jokes would land him up in jail!

Ranveer Allahbadia has been making headlines for inappropriate statements on the edgy reality talent show ‘India’s Got Latent.’ To one’s surprise, many moons ago, Ranveer jokingly mentioned that his humor would make him end up in jail.
After the ‘India’s Got Latent’ row, many of Ranveer’s previous podcast videos became viral on the internet, including his clip with an admired comedian, Vir Das. In the video, Allahbadia converses with Das about the struggle between authenticity and being funny. While the Emmy award-winning comedian Vir emphasizes the need to be authentic in front of the audience, Ranveer reciprocates by stating that he never had an issue with the audience knowing him, but he struggles with being funny.
Ranveer expressed, “I never had a struggle with that, but I have had struggled for being a funnier, dude. That’s why I’m asking you, I’m asking Zakir Khan.” When Vir advised him to be in an atmosphere where he could have different experiences, Ranveer said the million-dollar statement which went viral, “If I really expose my sense of humour, I would go to jail.”
The YouTuber started facing controversy when a clip went viral of him asking the ‘Would You Rather?’ question while sitting on a dais of the popular show, ‘India’s Got Latent.’ The show is renowned for its edgy and dark humour, as described by the fans. However, after Ranveer’s inappropriate comment got picked up by social media users, a question was raised, ‘What is the boundary that defines Freedom of Speech in comedy and Vulgarity?’
Multiple FIRs and complaints were filed against Ranveer. He even released a public apology soon after his remark led to a controversy. However, the internet didn’t seem convinced when Ranveer admitted it was a lapse of judgment. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court recently heard Ranveer’s plea against the FIRs. The bench did give him interim bail, but he is not allowed to leave the country.
