Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s love story had all the elements of a rom-com. They met on the set of Yeh Maaya Chesave and stayed friends until the sparks flew during Autonagar Surya. By 2015, they were flirting on Twitter (now X), and soon, the fans were shipping ‘Chay-Sam.’ Their grand Goa wedding in 2017 was like a scene straight out of a fairytale. But in a plot twist no one saw coming, they announced their separation in 2021. And just when fans were adjusting, Naga Chaitanya got engaged to actress Sobhita Dhulipala.
Long back, during an interview with TFPC on YouTube, Samantha and Naga Chaitanya opened up about their journey in the film industry and their relationship. As part of the interview, the host asked Chaitanya to propose to Samantha. Samantha said, “Say like you mean it.” Initially shy, Chaitanya said, “From the bottom of my heart, Samantha, I love you.” Samantha, not convinced by his delivery, quipped, “Did you believe that? I didn’t buy it.” She urged him to say it again with more feeling. Chaitanya then repeated his proposal, saying that he always means what he says.
Speaking with Karan Johar on Koffee With Karan 7, Samantha had admitted that the split with Naga Chaitanya was not amicable. Speaking about the separation, Samantha said on the show, “It has been hard. But it’s good now. It’s fine. I am stronger than I have ever been.” Karan asked her if there are any hard feelings. The actress replied, “Are there hard feelings like if you put us both in a room, you have to hide sharp objects? Yeah, as of now, yes.” “So it’s not an amicable situation right now,” KJo asked her. “Not right now, but maybe sometime in the future, yeah,” she replied.
Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala got engaged on August 8, in a private ceremony at Chay’s home in Hyderabad. Chay’s father, actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, posted photos from the event on his Twitter account. The engagement has caused a divide on social media between Chay’s fans and those of his ex-wife, Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
