When Anu Agarwal defended Ranveer Singh's infamous nude photoshoot; recalled her own topless shoot for 'Cloud Door'

Anu Aggarwal, known for Aashiqui, surprised audiences with a bold topless scene in Mani Kaul’s The Cloud Door (1994). The Indo-German short premiered at Cannes and other major festivals. Anu once told Bollywood Bubble she was shocked when asked to shoot the scene, as it wasn’t in the original script.
Anu initially refused to do the topless scene since it wasn’t part of the original script. She was taken aback when the director introduced it unexpectedly on the 29th day of the 30-day shoot. Anu questioned the change and decided not to proceed, emphasizing that it was her choice, not a limitation.

Reflecting on the situation, Anu shared that she was unaware of the scene beforehand, as it wasn’t included in the original script. When it was suddenly introduced on the 29th day of the 30-day shoot, she was shocked and refused to do it, emphasizing that it was her choice rather than a limitation.

She later reflected on her decision and began questioning why she had refused the scene. After much thought, she concluded that it was unethical to introduce such a scene without prior discussion. She felt that everything, including intimate scenes, should be mentioned in the script to allow actors to make informed choices.

In 2022, Ranveer Singh’s nude photoshoot for Paper Magazine sparked controversy, leading to police complaints and prime-time debates. When asked about it, Anu supported Ranveer, stating that actors need to be daring. She emphasized that pushing boundaries isn’t just about nudity but also about emotional vulnerability on screen.
Ranveer Singh, discussing his photoshoot, expressed that physical nudity was easy for him, but true vulnerability lay in his performances, where he bared his soul. He emphasized that he had no hesitation being naked in front of a crowd, believing that the discomfort came from others, not himself.
