Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal

NEW DELHI: Punjab farmer-activist Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a fast-unto-death since months at the Khanauri border point to press the Centre to accept the agitating farmers’ demands, arrived in ambulance for meeting with Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the seventh round of talks.
In the video, Dallewal could be seen lying on the stretcher in the ambulance. He arrived with few other people, who were sitting right next to Dallewal in the ambulance.
The 70-year-old Dallewal, a cancer patient, has been on a fast-unto-death since months at the Khanauri border point between Punjab and Haryana to press the Centre to accept the agitating farmers’ demands, including a legal guarantee of MSP on crops.
This meeting marks the third round of discussions in just over a month. The focus of these talks is the demand for a legal guarantee of a minimum support price (MSP) that ensures a 50% profit over the comprehensive cost (C2) for farmers.
The discussions are expected to focus on the document provided by farm forums to officials regarding the quantum of money needed for MSP. They claim to have sourced the information/data in the document from sources including the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Credit Rating Information Services of India Limited (Crisil), and the Reserve Bank, which have calculated varying figures about the money required to provide MSP.
