Mumbai Indians secured a commanding 100-run victory against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Thursday, marking their sixth consecutive win and propelling them to the top of the IPL 2025 points table. The match featured strong batting performances from Mumbai’s openers and ended Rajasthan’s playoff hopes, while also marking an emotional reunion between former Mumbai Indians player Akash Madhwal and his previous captain Rohit Sharma.
Mumbai Indians posted an imposing total of 217 for two, with Rohit Sharma scoring 53 off 36 balls and Ryan Rickelton contributing 61 off 38 deliveries. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten, both scoring 48 runs off 23 balls each.

Rajasthan Royals, who had successfully chased 210 against Gujarat Titans at the same venue recently, were dismissed for 117 in 16.1 overs. This defeat marked their eighth loss in 11 matches.

The victory highlighted Mumbai Indians’ remarkable turnaround under Hardik Pandya’s leadership, having previously languished in ninth position after their first five games of the season. They now need just one more win to secure their playoff spot.
The match was particularly significant for Akash Madhwal, who faced his former team Mumbai Indians for the first time since joining Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.2 crore. Madhwal went wicketless, conceding 39 runs in his four overs.
A touching moment occurred after the game when Madhwal greeted his former captain Rohit Sharma with folded hands. In a widely shared social media video, Madhwal was seen conversing with Rohit, who then directed his attention to his wife Ritika Sajdeh in the stands, prompting Madhwal to repeat his respectful gesture.
Rajasthan’s lineup included three former Mumbai Indians bowlers – Madhwal, Kumar Kartikeya, and Jofra Archer. For Madhwal, the occasion carried extra significance as he had made his IPL debut with Mumbai Indians two years prior, where he had achieved the best-ever figures by an uncapped Indian player, taking 5 wickets for 5 runs against Lucknow Super Giants.
