'Waste of time': Kunal Kamra on cops' visit to his Mumbai 'home'

NEW DELHI: In an indirect reference to the Mumbai Police visiting Kunal Kamra‘s “residence” in the city on Monday, the comedian termed it a “waste of time”.
Kamra, while sharing a photo of himself on X wrote: “Going to an address where I haven’t lived for the last 10 years is a waste of your time & public resources…”
Earlier in the day, Mumbai cops visited Kunal Kamra’s said residence amid controversy over his jokes about Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde. The Mumbai police had summoned Kamra to appear before them on March 31 for questioning.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena functionary Rahool Kanal also warned that Kunal Kamra will be given a “Shiv Sena-style” welcome when he arrives in Mumbai. Kamra has been summoned by the police in connection with a case registered against him.
During his performance at the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar, Kamra referred to Shinde as a “traitor” without directly naming him and performed a parody song targeting him. Following this, Kanal and 11 other Shiv Sena workers were arrested on March 23 for vandalizing the venue where Kamra had performed.
Shinde, who serves as Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister, is also the president of the Shiv Sena.
“Anyone running from the law is guilty. Kunal Kamra will receive a Shiv Sena-style welcome when he comes to Mumbai,” Kanal asserted. “Our stand remains unchanged, just as his does,” he added, hinting at the party’s history of aggressive protests.
He further claimed that the Tamil Nadu police were providing security to Kamra.
Last week, the Madras High Court granted Kamra interim anticipatory bail, requiring him to furnish a bond to the satisfaction of a judicial magistrate in Vanur, Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu.
Kamra, in his plea, stated that he had moved from Mumbai to Tamil Nadu in 2021 and had been a resident there since, expressing fear of arrest by the Mumbai police.
