The Redditor recently posted that he had to pay a bill of ₹17,983 on a date when he visited an eatery in Malviya Nagar, Delhi. Much like him, many netizens in the comments pointed out how this has turned out to be a common food scam where people meet online and pay a whopping bill, and in most cases, the restaurants and cafes are also aware of this scam.
“The OP (@/Hopeful-Table-9125) shared a picture of a food bill of ₹17,983 and asked, ‘Where is the law in this city, bro? Or is it fine to keep my mouth shut? 😞”
Here’s all about the scam!
The man went on a date to a cafe named Urban Cafe in Malviya Nagar; the meeting place was decided by the girl he met online through a dating app. Interestingly, the restaurant had decent reviews, but when the bill was shared, it had major issues that shocked the man as the highest proceed amount was mentioned in the bill as “Extra, which cost about Rs 9000, and another weird mention on the menu was “Daimond,” which added another ₹3,499 to the bill. Many men have complained about similar scams wherein they were asked to pay huge amounts after they went on online dates.

While this scam left netizens furious, while many shared their experiences on such dates, some took it on the lighter note and pointed out spelling errors in the bill and menu and called it a scam in itself. However, most people advised the user to reach out to the police and file a complaint.
What’s your take on this, and are Google-based food ratings actually trustworthy?
