Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava sees over 30 % drop on Sunday amid India-New Zealand Champions Trophy Final

Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava continued its box office run into the fourth weekend, but its Telugu version faced a noticeable drop on Sunday, likely due to the highly anticipated India vs. New Zealand Champions Trophy final.

On its fourth Friday, Chhaava collected Rs 8.75 crore across all languages, with the Hindi version contributing Rs 6.25 crore and the Telugu version Rs 2.5 crore. The film saw a strong jump on Saturday, collecting Rs 16.75 crore overall—a 91.43% increase—driven by the Hindi version’s Rs 13.5 crore and the Telugu version’s Rs 3.25 crore, marking a 30% growth in the latter. However, Sunday saw a decline, with the film earning Rs 11.5 crore, including Rs 9 crore from Hindi and Rs 2.5 crore from Telugu, bringing the Telugu version’s day-on-day drop to 23% and drop in Hindi by over 33%.
The fall in collections coincided with India’s crucial Champions Trophy final against New Zealand, which drew massive viewership and likely diverted attention away from cinemas. This impact was particularly noticeable as the collections dropped by almost 31.34% in overall collections from Saturday to Sunday further highlights how major sporting events can affect box office numbers.

Despite the Sunday dip, Chhaava has maintained a steady presence at the box office, particularly in its Hindi version, taking the overall collection to over Rs 520 crore.. However, with weekday trends yet to unfold, it remains to be seen how the film will sustain its momentum with upcoming releases poised to take up screens.
Chhaava directed by Laxman Utekar also featured stellar performances by Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai and Viineet Kumar Singh as kavi Kalash. Post Chhaava, Vicky will be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
