Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal, riding high on the success of Bad Newz, kicked off his career as an assistant director for Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur. He recently shared some wild stories: he almost got beaten up while filming illegal sand mining and came close to getting arrested in Banaras for shooting at the railway station.
In a chat with comedian Tanmay Bhat on his YouTube channel, Vicky Kaushal shared a scary story from his Gangs of Wasseypur days. He almost got beaten up by the sand mafia while filming illegal sand mining. “The coal smuggling that was shown in the film was real. We shot it. One incident happened when we went to capture visuals of illegal sand mining. I was baffled because that was the first time I realised that this happens so openly that you wouldn’t feel that this is actual smuggling going on; you would feel that it is a properly run business because there weren’t just two trucks standing there, there were 500 trucks,” recalled Vicky.
Vicky continued that while they were filming, 500 people surrounded them. The camera operator, an older man, called the team to say they were stuck and the camera would be late. He said, “The camera attendant was an old man, some 50 plus. That guy called the unit saying that the camera wouldn’t come on time because we were caught up in a situation here. Hearing him talk over the phone, the person there thought that he was calling somebody influential. That man slapped the cameraman, snatched the camera from him, and threatened us that they would break the camera. We both were about to get beaten up, but we somehow escaped.”
As for Bad Newz, within two days, the film has already minted around Rs 20 crores at the box office. On Day 1, the film earned around Rs 8.62 Crores, and now on the second day, the film has collected around Rs 10 Crores.
