Uttarakhand receives central recognition over rural development schemes

NEW DELHI: Central Rural development ministry’s Empowered Committee hailed Uttarakhand for implementing the Centre’s scheme and said that their achievements led to increased allocations and special bonuses for the upcoming financial year.
Key highlights:
DAY-NRLM success:
Uttarakhand successfully utilised its allocated Rs 105.67 crore under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). As a result, it became the first state to receive an additional bonus installment of Rs32 crore. For 2025-26, the allocation has been increased to Rs 142.21 crore, marking a 35% rise, with a higher spending limit of Rs 213.32 crore.
Top performer in skill development:
Under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), Uttarakhand, along with Punjab, achieved 100% of its targets, earning recognition as one of the best-performing states. This success has resulted in the central government assigning additional targets for the state.
MGNREGA expansion:
For 2025-26, Uttarakhand has been allocated a labour budget of 187.66 lakh person-days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). As per their performance in the previous year, the central government has approved an increased target of 200 lakh person-days.
Infrastructure growth with PMGSY:
The state’s efforts in rural road construction under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) were appreciated, especially in Phase-1. A newly developed mobile app for road monitoring was also praised, with plans to integrate other monitoring tools through APIs. The committee suggested involving MPs and MLAs in surveys for Phase-4 road construction.
Progress in housing initiatives:
Uttarakhand’s progress under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) received commendation, with special recognition for advancements made under PM Janman.
As Uttarakhand government implemented several Centre’s scheme it strengthens the rural infrastructure and employment opportunities and also improves the quality of life for its residents.
