Police revealed that the student had been advised by his father to remain at the school and continue with his studies in the arts stream

A 16-year-old class 11 student was found dead in the dormitory of a private school in Delhi. The boy allegedly died by suicide due to some study-related concerns,  the police said.

The boy’s body was discovered by the police early on Friday.  The preliminary probe suggests that the student, identified as Kunal Rai, a resident of Delhi’s Nagloi area, was reportedly distressed over friends leaving for another school.

Rai, who wanted to pursue science as his stream was upset as his friends shifted to another school and got to study science while his school did not offer science as a stream to the students.

Police revealed that the student had been advised by his father to remain at the school and continue with his studies in the arts stream but the boy felt isolated and disheartened, allegedly acting on his feelings of loneliness and frustration.

“His father had counselled him to continue in the school in the arts stream. The boy was feeling lonely and was upset. On July 25, around 6 am, he committed suicide by hanging himself from an iron bar of a ceiling with a piece of cloth torn out from a bed sheet,” the police officer said.

Distressed by the fact, Kunal took his own life by hanging from an iron bar in the ceiling using a piece of cloth from a bed sheet. A visible ligature mark was found on his neck, indicating the cause of death.

Following a postmortem examination, the body was returned to the family. No evidence of foul play has been detected.

Authorities have launched an inquest under section 194 of the BNSS to further investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
