NEW DELHI: The Uttar Pradesh government, led by CM Yogi Adityanath on Saturday issued strict directives to shut down illegal slaughterhouse and enforce a ban on meat sales within a 500-meter radius of religious sites during Navratri.
Amrit Abhijat, principal secretary of the urban development department, has instructed all District Magistrates, Police Commissioners, and Municipal Commissioners to ensure strict compliance with the order.
Additionally, a complete ban on animal slaughter and meat sales will be enforced across the state on April 6, 2025, in observance of Ram Navami.
The government has warned of strict action against violators under the UP Municipal Corporation Act, 1959, and the Food Safety Acts of 2006 and 2011.
Meanwhile, CM Yogi has announced grand celebrations for Chaitra Ram Navami, a major Hindu festival. He has directed officials to organise a 24-hour Akhand Paath (continuous recitation) of Shri Ramcharitmanas in temples across all districts of Uttar Pradesh.
“CM Yogi Adityanath has given instructions to organize a 24-hour Akhand Paath of Shri Ramcharitmanas in all the districts on the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Ramnavami,” stated the Chief Minister’s Office.
The directives are part of the state government’s efforts to regulate meat sales and uphold religious sentiments while ensuring adherence to existing laws.
