Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday asserted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the government will take necessary steps to safeguard national security.
“I want to assure you that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, what you desire will certainly happen,” he said at a public event in Delhi. His remarks came as he talked about India’s defence forces but did not mention the April 22 Pahalgam attack directly.
He spoke about his duties as a defence minister and also took a moment to praise PM Modi for “taking risks”. “As the defence minister, it is my responsibility to work with my soldiers and ensure the protection of the country’s borders. And it is my responsibility to give a befitting reply, by working with the armed forces, to those who cast an evil eye on our country,” he said.
Additionally, talking about PM Modi, he also said, “You all know Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s work ethic and perseverance. You are aware of his efficiency & determination. You are aware of the way he has learnt to take risks in his life.”
These remarks about India’s armed forces and border security come in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 people.
Following the attack, tensions have been high between India and Pakistan, with India suspending the Indus water treaty and ordering all Pakistani nationals to leave India. Earlier in the day, India also cut the water flow through the Baglihar dam after the Indus Treaty suspension.
