Two robbers arrested, one escape, after encounter by Yamunanagar police; Illegal weapons recovered

YAMUNANAGAR: The crime investigation agency (CIA)-II of Yamunanagar Police successfully arrested two accused robbers after an encounter near Shahpur village of the district on Sunday. The encounter took place while the police team was searching for suspects involved in a robbery that took place on April 24, 2025, in the Sadhaura area, and a mobile phone shop robbery in the Jagadhri city last night.
The accused have been identified as Rajat alias Rinku and Yatin, both residents of Marwa Khurd village of Yamunanagar district.
Two illegal weapons were recovered from the accused persons, along with the bag full of mobile phones that had been snatched in Jagadhri. One accused managed to flee, taking advantage of the darkness, and efforts to apprehend him are ongoing, said a spokesperson of Yamunanagar police. The injured suspects have been admitted to a hospital for treatment in Yamunanagar.
He said that the action was taken on the directions from Yamunanagar SP Surender Singh Bhoria, to crack down on crime and criminals.
Giving further details, DSP Ashish Chaudhary and CIA-II in-charge Raj Kumar stated that during the search operation for the criminals involved in the robberies, they received information that three armed suspects were roaming near the under-construction highway ring road close to village Mehlawali in the Jagadhri Sadar police station area.
The DSP said that acting swiftly, a team was formed, patrolling was started in the area when the police signalled three suspects riding on motorcycle to stop at about 2 am.
“The motorcycle riders hit their motorcycle with the police vehicle and fell down. One of the motorcycle riders fled from the spot taking advantage of the darkness in the night. However, the two others opened fire on the police team. One fire hit the police vehicle. The other fire hit a police man, but he had a narrow escape as he was wearing a bullet proof jacket. The third fire hit no one,” said DSP Ashish Chaudhary.
The DSP added that six criminal cases are registered against the accused persons and a fresh case was registered at Jagadhri Sadar police station on Sunday.
The police investigations revealed that besides the robbery in Sadhaura on the night of April 23-24, 2025, and tonight’s snatching from the mobile shop in Jagadhri, the accused were involved in several other crimes. These include looting cash from a shop at gunpoint in the Chhappar police station area on February 22, 2025, looting money from a gas agency in village Mehlawali under Jagadhri Sadar police station on February 18, 2025, and robbing a vegetable vendor at gunpoint while traveling in a car from the Jagadhri city area. All these crimes were committed in 2025.
