Former president Donald Trump said he has all the respect for his running mate JD Vance despite the several controversies around him. On his ‘childless cat ladies’ comment, Trump said JD Vance is a family-oriented man and what he meant is that family experience is valuable, according to Trump’s interpretation. On being asked why he chose JD Vance — during the rocky interview at the Black journalists’ convention at Chicago Wednesday, Trump said JD Vance is a very strong believer in work and working men and women who have been treated unfairly.
Trump showered praises on his running mate, calling him very smart as his book became a best seller, the Netflix movie based on the book became a smashing hit.All this Vance achieved on his own, with no push from a well-connected father, Trump said dousing all speculations that Trump might be in two minds about continuing with Vance in the wake of the controversies — one after another.
“He wrote a book, it became a bestseller. The movie became a smashing hit. He is a smart guy without the benefit of having family members with contact like a well-connected father… he went to Yale law school, he started from a difficult family and then went to military and then got into Yale, then he became very successful in business,” Trump said adding that JD excelled in everything he did.
Trump said that in the presidential election, the vice president candidate has virtually no impact. The commotion stays for the initial two- three days. “Historically, the choice makes no difference. Because you are voting for me,” Trump said.
JD Vance has shrugged off the controversies and said he didn’t think his highly scrutinized debut disappointed Trump. He said he wasn’t surprised by the media frenzy either. “I mean, I knew that when I came out of the gate there was going to be a couple of days of positive media coverage and then immediately they would go and attack me over everything that I had ever said in my life.”
“The price of entry of being on the national ticket and giving me an opportunity to govern is you have to … take the shots, and so I sort of expected it,” Vance told NBC News.
