Trudeau using tariff issue to ‘run again for PM,’ claims Trump: ‘Terrible job for Canada’
US President Donald Trump and Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

The ongoing US-Canada trade dispute took a dramatic turn as President Donald Trump accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of using the tariff battle as a political strategy to boost his re-election campaign.
“Believe it or not, despite the terrible job he’s done for Canada, I think that Justin Trudeau is using the Tariff problem, which he has largely caused, in order to run again for Prime Minister. So much fun to watch!” Trump wrote on TruthSocial, reigniting tensions between the two leaders.

.

The feud stems from the US imposing a 25% tariff on Canadian imports, citing concerns over fentanyl trafficking. Trudeau has warned that the trade conflict with the US will persist for the “foreseeable future,” with high-level negotiations ongoing to remove the tariffs before Trump’s planned additional measures take effect on April 2. However, no resolution has been reached, and Trudeau has opted to withhold specifics until concrete decisions are made.
Canada has retaliated with its own tariffs on US imports and has sought intervention from the World Trade Organization. The tit-for-tat economic standoff has rattled financial markets and further strained the already turbulent US-Canada relationship.
