NEW DELHI: Despite ending up on the losing side, Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David was named Player of the Match for his counter-attacking fifty against Punjab Kings on Saturday.
Acknowledging the tough playing conditions and RCB’s struggles to adapt, David said he was open to contributing more if given a chance to bat higher in the order. He also spoke about the pressure of performing in such conditions and the need for calculated risk-taking.
“It didn’t feel so easy. I don’t know what to say. I think that definitely boys batting up communicated it to me. The practice pitches have played similarly. Our coaching staff and management have built the squad for a reason. If I get an opportunity to bat, I will look to contribute to my team. At times when you are trying too hard, it doesn’t come off. Tonight was difficult. You had to manage risks a little bit. Would want to have a drink after the team wins. We have been faced with different conditions in each game at home. We haven’t played well at home. We need to find a template. We will have to regroup quickly as we will play Punjab,” David said during the post-match presentation.
David’s 50 off just 25 balls helped RCB recover to a total of 95 after a dramatic collapse that saw them lose seven wickets for just 42 runs in a rain-curtailed 14-over contest.

Josh Hazlewood’s brilliant spell of 3/14 gave the home side some hope, but it wasn’t enough as Punjab Kings chased down the target with five wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare.

PBKS reached 98/5 in 12.1 overs, registering their fifth win of the season. Nehal Wadhera remained unbeaten on a fiery 33 off 19 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes, while Marcus Stoinis sealed the victory with a maximum.
RCB’s defeat marked their third straight loss at home, extending their winless run in Bengaluru. The two teams are set to face each other again on Sunday (April 20) in Mullanpur.
