Suryakumar Yadav achieved a significant milestone by becoming the fifth Indian player to surpass 8,000 runs in T20 cricket during Mumbai Indians’ commanding 8-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024. The achievement came as he scored an unbeaten 27 off just nine balls, helping Mumbai Indians secure their first win of the season.
Surya’s explosive innings included three fours and two sixes at a remarkable strike rate of 300, with his final six sealing the victory for Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.

The elite list of Indian batters with over 8,000 T20 runs is led by Virat Kohli with 12,976 runs, followed by Rohit Sharma with 11,851 runs. Shikhar Dhawan holds the third position with 9,797 runs, while Suresh Raina occupies the fourth spot with 8,654 runs.
The victory at Wankhede Stadium marked Mumbai Indians’ 24th win against Kolkata Knight Riders, establishing a record for the most wins against a single opponent in IPL history. It was also their 10th victory against KKR at Wankhede, setting another record for most wins against an opponent at a specific venue.
Despite expectations of a high-scoring match at the batting-friendly Wankhede Stadium, KKR were restricted to a modest 116 runs. The collapse was primarily due to debutant Ashwani Kumar’s impressive bowling performance.
Kumar, the 23-year-old left-arm fast bowler, made a memorable IPL debut by claiming four wickets for 24 runs. His outstanding spell set the foundation for Mumbai Indians’ dominant victory.
Ryan Rickelton played a crucial role in the chase, scoring an unbeaten 62 to guide Mumbai Indians to their first win of the season. The victory ended their two-match losing streak in the tournament.
