'Sleep at 10, improve diet': Shashank Singh feels lifestyle tweaks could be the key for Prithvi Shaw's career revival

NEW DELHI: Once hailed as Indian cricket’s next big thing, Prithvi Shaw has hit a rough patch in his career. The 25-year-old batter, who made his mark as a fearless stroke player, has found himself sidelined, both at the domestic and international levels. After going unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction despite setting a base price of Rs 75 lakh, Shaw faced further setbacks as he was left out of Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy squads.
But despite the challenges, those who know him closely believe that Shaw’s career is far from over. Punjab Kings all-rounder Shashank Singh, who has played alongside Shaw in Mumbai for over a decade, recently shared his thoughts on how the young batter can bounce back.

Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube show, Shashank emphasised that Shaw’s potential is still intact and that a few lifestyle changes might just be the turning point.
“Prithvi Shaw is underrated. If he goes back to his basics, he can achieve anything,” Shashank said. “I know him since he was 13, since I’ve played club cricket with him in Bombay. If you ask me what’s wrong with him, he has a different perspective on a few things.”

Shashank, without being overly critical, pointed out that small adjustments in Shaw’s daily routine could make a significant difference.
“Maybe, he can change something about his work ethic, maybe sleep at 10 PM instead of 11 PM, maybe improve his diet,” he suggested. “If he can accept and change some of these things, it would be the best thing for Indian cricket.”
The underlying message from Shashank was clear — Shaw’s struggles are not just about his batting technique but also about maintaining the discipline needed to thrive at the top level. With talent in abundance, it’s the lifestyle factors that might be holding him back.
However, Shashank also acknowledged that Shaw likely has people around him who are guiding him already.
“Maybe he already is (making the changes). He does not need me to advise him. He probably already has 10 better people giving him advice,” he remarked, showing support while also highlighting the importance of surrounding oneself with the right mentors.
