NEW DELHI: They are India teammates, and they were teammates last season at Delhi Capitals too. After DC registered a thrilling one-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in their Indian Premier League 2025 season opener in Visakhapatnam, the trio — DC skipper Axar Patel, DC spinner Kuldeep Yadav, and LSG skipper Rishabh Pant — shared a lighthearted moment on the field.
Kuldeep, batting at No.9, contributed just five runs off five balls but played a crucial role, adding 21 valuable runs for the ninth wicket with match-hero Ashutosh Sharma during DC’s 210-run chase. His unexpected boundary off Prince Yadav in the penultimate over became a talking point.

Teasing Kuldeep about his crucial four, Pant kickstarted the friendly exchange, saying, “Single le raha tha, chauka maar gaya [He was taking a single and hit a four instead].”
Kuldeep defended himself, replying, “Mera kaam tha single lena [My job was to take a single].” He then added, “The bowler gave the ball in the slot.”
To which both Pant and Axar burst out laughing, saying in unison, “He knows only one shot. That’s what I am saying, he knows only one shot.”

The trio erupted in laughter, showing their camaraderie despite playing for rival teams.
On the field, Ashutosh Sharma hammered a remarkable unbeaten 66 to power Delhi Capitals to a thrilling one-wicket victory. DC chased down 210 with three balls to spare, overcoming an early collapse at 7/3. New captain Axar Patel scored 22, while Tristan Stubbs chipped in with 34.
