With less than a week until Election Day, Scarlett Johansson has gathered her fellow Avengers to tackle what she calls an “emergency” situation. Johansson, along with Marvel stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Don Cheadle, Danai Gurira, and Paul Bettany, are using their superhero status to encourage voter turnout and rally support for Kamala Harris, who’s facing Donald Trump in the 2024 US presidential race.
Johansson, speaking to Vanity Fair, expressed her mix of anxiety and cautious optimism. “I hope people remember to vote, are not complacent, and participate. I feel like, if people vote, then we’ll be in good shape,” she shared. She also turned to the Avengers group chat to mobilise her MCU co-stars for a viral voting push. “We don’t just rib each other; we share information on events or fundraisers,” she explained, adding that their combined star power could create a memorable, impactful moment to motivate voters.
The group’s efforts culminated in a video shared by Vanity Fair, where the cast urges fans to vote and jokingly brainstorms catchphrases for Kamala Harris. Their camaraderie and banter resemble their on-screen Avengers dynamics, with Downey and Ruffalo playfully bickering while Johansson takes charge. As they try to align their chaotic schedules, Johansson jokes about the challenge of assembling Hollywood’s biggest names: “Chris is in Bulgaria, Robert’s on Broadway, Mark’s filming, Danai’s canvassing, and I was in the Grand Canyon!” Despite their busy lives, they all managed to come together on a Zoom call, embodying their “assemble” mantra.
Beyond the fun, Johansson’s motivation is deeply personal. She expressed concern for the world her children will inherit, saying, “It feels almost like an emergency… politically, socially, and environmentally. Another Trump presidency would be devastating.” Through their combined effort, the Avengers hope to inspire fans to make a difference by casting their votes.
