An alert was issued by CDSCO regarding this. The central drug authority collates data on spurious drugs from all states/UTs on a monthly basis.
In April, CDSCO had said, drugs found to be spurious in Delhi included Instgra tablet that is used in HIV treatment, blood pressure lowering drug (Telmisartan 40 mg and Amlodipine 5 mg tablets), medicine used to treat migraine (Domperidone and Naproxen Sodium Tablets) and antibiotic Rifaximin.In Jharkhand, sample of another antibiotic, Cefixime Trihydrate with Lactic Acid Bacillus, was declared spurious on the basis of physical comparison and analytical tests done by the manufacturer and state licensing authorities of the respective states.
State drugs licensing authorities of Mizoram & Tripura, Pondicherry said they did not find spurious drugs in their jurisdiction while, according to CDSCO, UP failed to submit data in the prescribed format.
State drug licensing authorities of Andhra, Arunachal, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar, Dadra Nagar & Haveli, Daman & Diu, and Lakshadweep did not submit any data in respect of spurious drug alert for April month, CDSCO said.
