Sadie Sink cast in Tom Holland's ‘Spider-Man 4’; fans ask 'Mary Jane or Jean Grey'

‘Stranger Things’ breakout star, Sadie Sink has officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The actress has reportedly been cast in a leading role in the highly anticipated ‘Spider-Man 4’ film, which will see Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film is set to begin shooting later this year, Deadline reports.
While details of Sink’s character remain under wraps, speculation is rife among fans that she may be introduced as Jean Grey, a key member of the X-Men. With Marvel Studios’ closer to incorporating the mutants into the MCU, chances are that fans will get to see Jean with her telekinetic and telepathic abilities. However, some believe she could be playing another well-known red-haired character in Spider-Man lore—possibly Spider-Man’s new love interest – Mary Jane Watson. It is commonly believed that Zendaya had already played the role of MJ in the trilogy, however, some fans note that her character’s name in the film was Michelle “MJ” Jones.
The casting decision comes at a pivotal moment in the Spider-Man franchise. Sadie’s casting comes at a time when everyone in the MCU has no memory of Peter Parker being Spider-Man, following the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ where Peter, with the help of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, chooses to erase his existence from the memories of everyone, including those he loved.
With Sink’s character expected to have a major presence in the film, her involvement hints at significant new storylines for the beloved superhero.
Currently, Holland is filming Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ and is expected to begin work on ‘Spider-Man 4’ once that production wraps. He is also rumoured to be heading to London to shoot for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, where he is expected to join the Russo Brothers, and cast members including Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth and many others.
For Sink, this new role arrives as she bids farewell to ‘Stranger Things,’ which is set to conclude with its final season airing later this year.
Currently, Spider-Man 4 is slated for a July 2026 release.
