After a sluggish start to the IPL 2025 season, Mumbai Indians are storming back into form with four consecutive wins, climbing into the top four of the points table. The resurgence of Rohit Sharma at the top of the order has come just in time for MI’s playoff push.
Rohit had a forgettable start to the season, scoring just 82 runs in his first six outings with scores of 0, 8, 13, 17, 18, and 26. However, the veteran opener has turned it around in emphatic fashion, notching back-to-back half-centuries in MI’s crucial wins against Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Former South African pacer and commentator Shaun Pollock singled out Rohit’s revival as the “coolest” resurgence of the week in the IPL.
Who’s that IPL player?
“Yeah, it’s definitely got to be Rohit Sharma, doesn’t it?” said Pollock on Cricbuzz. “We were just hoping that he would come good at the top of the order and he’s managed to do so. First time he’s got back-to-back fifties in nine years — the last time was in 2016 — but he’s produced at the right time for Mumbai. They’re peaking at the right time, and if he can carry on this kind of form, it’s going to give them a real big chance.”

Will Mumbai Indians qualify for the playoffs this season?
Pollock also praised the impact of Rohit’s presence on the rest of the lineup. “If he just has that extra performance, the legend of Rohit Sharma with someone like Ryan Rickelton, it adds impetus at the top. He’s got so much power, so much lethal hitting in the top and middle overs — if he fires, it changes the game.”
Rohit was also seen contributing in the field for the full four overs after a brief absence due to injury niggles earlier this season — another positive sign for MI.

Mumbai Indians now have five wins in nine matches and will next face the Lucknow Super Giants at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, aiming to solidify their spot in the top four. With Rohit in rhythm, MI look more dangerous than ever.
