Robert Pattinson opens up about his unusual acting prep and reflects on his role in 'Mickey 17'

Robert Pattinson well known for his unique approach to acting, recently shared insights into his unusual preparation methods at the world premiere of ‘Mickey 17 ‘ in London on February 13. The 38 year old actor revealed that his eccentric techniques often frustrate those closest to him, including family and friends.
Pattinson admitted that he likes to experiment with different mannerisms and accents as part of his character immersion, leading to plenty of confusion for those around him. “I spend a lot of time wandering around, trying out random behaviors instead of practicing new roles, which tends to annoy everyone,” he shared in an interview with People. “I often get asked, ‘Why are you suddenly talking like a taxi driver with a German accent?’”
Despite his quirky preparation rituals, Pattinson reflected on ‘Mickey 17’ as one of the most enjoyable filming experiences of his career. “It was probably one of the easiest and most pleasant shoots I’ve ever had,” he said, adding that although his role was relatively straightforward, the complex production posed significant challenges for the rest of the crew. “I think it was a lot more complicated for everyone else, but it was easy for me,” he said with a grin.
Bong Joon Ho’s highly anticipated science fiction film centers on Mickey Barnes, portrayed by Pattinson, a man whose job involves repeatedly dying and being cloned for future assignments. Adapted from Edward Ashton’s novel ‘Mickey 7,’ the movie explores themes of identity, mortality and survival in a futuristic world.
Pattinson’s enthusiasm for the project was fueled by his admiration for the film’s director, Bong Joon Ho, best known for his Academy Award-winning film Parasite. Pattinson who has long been a fan of Bong’s work, was immediately drawn to the project upon reading the script. Speaking at CinemaCon in April 2024, the ‘Twilight’ star praised the filmmaker, saying, “Bong has been my hero for many years. I’ve always been inspired by his films.”
In addition to Pattinson ‘Mickey 17’ boasts a star-studded cast that includes Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo. The film is set to hit theaters on March 7 and is already generating significant buzz in the sci-fi community.
Pattinson’s passion for his craft and his unconventional approach have long been a hallmark of his career and his latest role in ‘Mickey 17’ promises to showcase his talent in yet another unique and thought-provoking film. Fans of both Pattinson and Bong Joon Ho eagerly await the film’s release, anticipating a visually stunning and emotionally resonant cinematic experience.
