Rescue mission goes awry in MP: Hostage & ASI lynched by mob

BHOPAL: A police rescue operation in MP’s Mauganj turned fatal on Saturday when a mob lynched both the hostage and an ASI.
SDPO Ankita Sulya, who led the rescue operation, recounted being trapped in a room with the dead hostage while an enraged crowd rioted outside. It wasn’t until her rescue that she learned ASI Ramcharan Gautam of State Armed Force had been killed.
The attack occurred in Gadra, about 600km from Bhopal. ” The situation is under control. A flag march was conducted, and we have detained several suspects,” said Mauganj SP.
Police responded to reports that one Sunny Dwivedi was being held captive and assaulted. Negotiations with villagers lasted two hours before officers entered the locked room -only to find him dead. His death enraged the crowd, triggering the attack. Cops linked the violence to an earlier accident that killed a local, fueling suspicions against Sunny.
